What are Varicose Veins? And how to treat them!

Varicose Veins can be treated with Glue!

A24/7 lifestyle in today’s world with rushed meals, poor diet, disrupted sleep, intense work schedules and standing for hours at a time, takes its toll on your body. One of the most visible results of stress and long hours on your feet are unsightly and often painful varicose veins – those red, blue, sometimes thick ropey and bulging veins in your legs. Thankfully, our non-surgical service for varicose veins can treat your problem with a surprisingly simple technique. At our clinic you can more-or-less lie back and simply relax while having varicose vein treatment procedures that are fast, safe and relatively pain free. More importantly, they are non-surgical and very effective.  A rejuvenated and healthy appearance of your legs will also recharge your self-esteem.

HOW ARE VARICOSE VEINS FORMED?
Veins carry your blood from the body back to the heart. They have valves that act as one-way security gates meant to prevent the blood from flowing in the wrong direction. When the vein wall becomes diseased the valves also weaken, the blood leaks back into the vein lower down and collects there. The vein then gets bigger and becomes tortuous or varicose. Age, pregnancy, obesity and inactivity can all contribute to the formation of varicose veins but mostly it is a an inherited weakness.  Varicose veins are not only unsightly but they can be extremely painful. Other symptoms are restless legs at night, increased incidence of muscle cramps and deep vein thrombosis.  In some clients varicose eczema and varicose ulcers can form. Having them removed is good for your health as well as your looks.

HOW DO WE REMOVE VARICOSE VEINS?
We have three different removal methods; Sclerotherapy and Endovenous Laser Ablation or NOW by Venaseal (vein glue).

Sclerotherapy
Larger veins benefit from this procedure. A solution or microfoam containing a medicine is injected into the vein, flushing it out and closing off the vein wall.

Endovenous Ablation
Following an ultrasound map, a catheter is inserted in the varicose vein. An anaesthetic is then injected to numb your vein wall and pushes the blood out of the vein, it also protects the surrounding tissue from heat. Laser light energy from the catheter heats the vein’s wall, shrinking and closing it, the venous blood is then directed to healthy vein pathways.

Venaseal Ablation
Following an ultrasound map, a catheter is inserted in the varicose vein, then small aliquots of Venaseal glue (vein glue) is deposited down the length of the unwanted vein followed by some gentle pressure, it squeezes the vein closed permanently.  This is becoming increasingly popular worldwide as it leaves very little dead blood (clot) in the vein, has no risk of damaging nearby structures such as nerves and can be used safely from low down in the leg.  There is also less need to wear stockings afterwards.

How Long Will It Take?
These are walk-in-walk-out procedures, so can easily be done over lunch time. We have an anaesthetic cream available to ease the very small amount of discomfort some clients feel.
